Exodus Web3 Wallet — Security & Backup

Follow these security principles to keep your funds safe: store recovery phrases offline, verify transactions, and keep software up to date.

Recovery phrase safety

  • Write your 12/24-word backup on paper or metal — do not store it digitally.
  • Keep at least one off-site backup in a secure place (e.g., safe deposit box).
  • Never share your recovery phrase: Exodus support will never ask for it.

Passphrase (advanced)

A passphrase acts as an additional secret word. It creates a distinct wallet and dramatically increases security for advanced users, but losing it means losing access.

Firmware & app updates: Install official updates promptly — they include security fixes and compatibility improvements.

Recovering your wallet

To restore a wallet, use the recovery phrase during the wallet restore flow. Ensure you are using a trusted device and enter the phrase only on the wallet app—not on any website or chat.
